Session Report is up, in which we try Netrunner

The latest Jerusalem Strategy Gaming Club session report is up here. Games played: Saboteur, Netrunner, Wildlife, Lord of the Rings: the Confrontation, Children of Fire: the Board Game, Palazzo, Metro, Power Grid, Tichu.

First game meeting of the new year, and we make first plays for Netrunner, Palazzo and Metro, as well as many people playing other games for their first time, and a few first time visitors to boot.

Chicago Sun Times reports a woman hospitalized after a game of Trivial Pursuit. Initially I thought it was just from "bad game fatigue syndrome", but it appears that alcohol and drugs were also involved. Children: Just Say No to bad games and drugs.

Greg passes on a tip that many old Dwarfstar science-fiction and fantasy board games from the '80s are now available free for download.

Something that I find nifty about Netrunner is the match between theme and mechanics. By this I mean that, in a sense, the game is thematically about information control. Mechanically, it is *also* about information control. In particular, the installing of Corp cards face-down introduces many opportunities for bluff and double-bluff. Did you know that there are certain nodes that are essentially booby-traps for the Runner? Once you've established that in the game, it can be possible (either deliberately or in an emergency) to hang nodes or agendas out in the open. The Runner then needs to decide if it's worth the risk or not. Same goes for rezzing ice. Just because you *can*, doesn't mean that you *should*.

Yes, I noticed, The theme fits very well with the mechanics.
