Sept 11: WTC Companies on the Web

This post lists the current web status of all companies who were in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, as well as what mention they give to that date on their website, if any.

Background

The Internet was buzzing with information on September 11. Late in the afternoon I began to wonder how the companies affected by the tragedy were reacting online. In other words, via their web sites. I did some surveying and searching, but I never brought it all to fruition. I wasn't writing a blog back then.

Obviously, updating the website was not the first priority of these companies at this time. As a result, many of the companies' sites remained unchanged and open for business - days, or even weeks, after the event. You could still make reservations at Windows on the World restaurant on Sept 14, 2001 if I recall correctly, possibly even later.

Still, some companies used their websites as practical tools for leaving and receiving contact information, or to provide a space for messages of grief or support.

I wondered what the current web status of these companies was, today. Note that this is not a comprehensive study of what became of every firm, only about their web presence, and if they mention anything about Sept 11. And note that I tried to be accurate, but I may have made mistakes. A company without a web page may no longer exist or may never have had one.
