I though the handling of the visitors was rather dull.

YehudaYehuda Berlingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16038826060312027387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9319479.post-15897270767114926562008-02-07T23:52:00.000+02:002008-02-07T23:52:00.000+02:00Nice review, Yehuda. The trip to hell, the Lucifer plot, and Death receiving all the visitors who want the key is just beautiful storytelling. It's no surprise that Lucifer went on to have it's own run of comics. I haven't read them yet, but I hear good things.Jeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09672337585097955449noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9319479.post-40885397314770590412008-02-07T20:47:00.000+02:002008-02-07T20:47:00.000+02:00Despite some errors, like DC or Marvel, I enjoyed ...Despite some errors, like DC or Marvel, I enjoyed reading your in depth look at the series. It's been awhile since I read the individual issues but they were what made me realize that comic books could be written in a more literate way. At that time I was writing fiction and poetry for magazines and the Sandman series was one of the comics that pushed me toward creating comic books. I still work on my own creator owned comic series in my free time.

It was refreshing to read a review from someone that does not normally read comic book work. You gave it a great deal of thought and care.

-Tim
Buffalo GameBuffs blogTim - A GameBuffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17383770524662879358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9319479.post-85019245531801050142008-02-07T00:35:00.000+02:002008-02-07T00:35:00.000+02:00Chris, you may be right. It was going to be ten separate reviews, one for each book, but ended up being only one.

So maybe I could have cut it down.

YehudaYehuda Berlingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16038826060312027387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9319479.post-21870827268075149502008-02-06T23:29:00.000+02:002008-02-06T23:29:00.000+02:00This is by far the longest Sandman piece I've ever...This is by far the longest Sandman piece I've ever seen... I feel there must have been some way to tighten this up - for instance, did you need to recap the contents of each? It's superfluous information to anyone who has read it, and a spoiler for anyone who hasn't. ;)

That aside, I just wanted to say that Seasons of Mist was my favourite, and none of the arcs after that really worked that well for me, although I continued to enjoy it.

I do agree that the one-offs in the later issues show off the best of Gaiman's style. There are some exceptional moment.

Anyway, just passing through... Now I really want to re-read the Sandman comics.

One thing, though: As the series was published by Vertigo, a DC imprint, I'm pretty sure that it takes place in the DC universe, not the Marvel one.Jeff Dieterlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03197479986265664240noreply@blogger.com
