Gleemax: Avalon Hill Games Will Soon Have a New Site

Gleemax.com is (going to be) a new site by Wizards of the Coast, an "online destination for hard core strategy and hobby gamers". Read more. The upshot is that it's an attempt to breathe new life into the old Avalon Hill line of games.

In Portland, OR, you can rent board games at Le Happy creperie.

Don't play cards in public in the Philippines or you'll get arrested. (The game was tong-its.)

Women's chess in Yemen is getting a governmental boost.

Where do you get the idea that this has something to do with the Avalon Hill brand?

This site seems targeted squarely at 12 year olds. It also seems coded by people stuck in 2002, but thats my professional bias showing like an ugly scar.

From the PR:

"a first of its kind online destination for hard core strategy and hobby gamers ... WotC also announced a hardcore board game portal, which will give players access to its backlist of Avalon Hill® titles such as Axis & Allies® and the award-winning Vegas Showdown™."

And from Gleemax's announcement:

"And, of course, we're going to have games. Lots of them. I don't want to give too much away yet, but imagine an Indie Strategy Games Portal filled with the coolest independent games, vetted by us, and given the Wizards Seal-of-Approval for fun, strategic game-play. Then think about a Board Game Portal featuring classics from our Avalon Hill™ catalog, as well as new games we don't even know about yet!"

Sure, there are other features, but the AH games seems like a major thrust of the site. It's not going to be focused on their CCG or RPG games, for instance.
