I'm know when I'm being mocked

In the latest Dice Tower, Moritz the German games correspondent makes fun of me ... (ref: here)

Yeah, but he did it in the context of an April Fools' joke.

The sacrifice tower would be cool, though, but you wouldn't know who contributed what.

I don't understand which game you are referencing, but I did understand the concept of what was being discussed. I always find it interesting when and where religion pops up and how people react to it. Some people assume faith is something only for the Sabbath (or in my case, since I am Catholic, for one hour on Sundays!) so they react a bit surprised when someone has a religious reaction to something.

Ryan: I know :-).

Marina: The game is Amun-Re, a game played over 6 rounds, with 4 steps in each round. The steps are:

1. Auction off provinces
2. Buy farmers, pyramids and cards for your provinces
3. Sacrifice money in order to determine the harvest level.
4. Receive income according to the number of farmers and harvest level.

Rinse repeat. Score for number of pyramids at the end of 3rd and 6th rounds.

Step 3 above is called "Sacrifice to Amun-Re" to bless the harvest. Since I/my group didn't feel comfortable saying that during the game, we changed it to be "Bribe the corrupt water official to give you water".

I provided a link to a very long discussion that I started on the issue on BGG, and to which Moritz was referring in the podcast.

Yes, my religion is more than the one day a week variety, which became clear during the discussion. And the reactions were interesting, as you say.

I had read a nice chunk of the discussion yesterday, but after reading your explanation of the game, I'm even more baffled as to what the big deal is especially when you offered up a suggestion in its stead!
